Evanston, Ill. — Northwestern will open two straight football seasons against Michigan State, as part of the Wildcats newly released Big Ten conference schedules for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
As per usual, the Wildcats do end both seasons against Illinois, playing at home against the Illini in 2020 and at Champaign in 2021.
Northwestern’s non-conference schedule will come back into play after the team takes on the Spartans, in East Lansing in 2020 and at home in 2021, to begin the season. In 2020, the Wildcats are scheduled to play Central Michigan in Evanston and are awaiting two other non-conference opponents for that season.
In 2021, games at Duke and at home against Ohio University follow Northwestern’s season-opener against Michigan State, with an opening for one more non-conference opponent remaining.

Northwestern-Bowling Green Preview
The Wildcats are coming into their week 3 tilt with Bowling Green reeling from a 41-17 loss to Duke, a game which they were never really in from the beginning. Northwestern is suffering two major categories: the running game and in the secondary.
Against Duke, Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones carved up Northwestern’s secondary like a hot knife through butter. Jones completed 29 of 45 of his passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns. The explanation for this is certainly the Wildcats’ secondary, which was relegated to playing graduate-student and walk-on cornerback Moe Almasri.
Furthermore, the running game has been lacking due to a leg injury to star running back Justin Jackson. Jackson was limited to only 18 yards on seven attempts.
Luckily for the Wildcats, the Bowling Green team which is coming to town on Saturday hasn’t had much luck on the season either. The Falcons are currently 0-2, losing to South Dakota and fellow Big Ten school Michigan State.
The Wildcats can utilize a strong running game control the game over a lowly Bowling Green squad, which yielded 215 and 214 yards rushing in its two game this season. The key after that would be to stay healthy, as Northwestern’s bye week immediately follows the game against the Falcons.
With a Sept. 30 date with Wisconsin looming, the Wildcats cannot afford any more injuries.
