This will probably go down as the weirdest officiating decision of bowl season. In the second quarter of Friday’s Music City Bowl against Northwestern, Kentucky running back Benny Snell was ejected for “making contact with an official.”
Snell did make contact with a ref — barely. It appeared he rejected help from one of the officials to get off the turf after a play where it looked like he took a late hit. There was no penalty called on Northwestern and Snell was clearly frustrated.
After the ejection, Snell and the rest of the Kentucky sideline was angry and confused. Here’s video of the exchange:

Snell’s bizarre ejection is tough news for Kentucky, too. He’s arguably the Wildcats’ top offensive player. Snell totaled 1,318 rushing yards in 2017 and scored 18 touchdowns on the ground. He had just 15 yards against Northwestern before getting tossed, but Snell scored the game’s first touchdown in the first quarter.
