Trevor Siemian and the NFL are starting Thursday night.
The former Northwestern quarterback — who won the Broncos job and has some of the biggest shoes in NFL history to fill (Peyton Manning’s) — will get to show a national audience what he’s capable of against the Panthers on NBC.
Siemian, a seventh-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, got some advice for his big night from another one of the best to ever play his position. And someone who also happens to be his team’s general manager.
“Just go out and play,” ESPN reported John Elway told Siemian. “Don’t worry about turnovers. You’re going to make mistakes. But just bounce back.”
Siemian had nearly 6,000 passing yards on over 900 attempts at Northwestern, but he has never attempted a pass in an NFL regular season game.
His backup is Paxton Lynch, the Broncos first-round 2016 draft pick out of Memphis.
