Former Northwestern basketball guard Johnnie Vassar filed an antitrust lawsuit against the university and NCAA, according to Business Wire. The lawsuit, which was filed on Monday U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, claims Northwestern used intimidation tactics in an effort to get Vassar to transfer.
Vassar played for Northwestern during the 2014-15 season. His complaint states the NCAA’s transfer rules “restrict the freedom of student athletes in violation of antitrust law.”
Last year, Northwestern reportedly informed Vassar he wouldn’t have a spot on the team, according to Business Wire.
Vassar played in 18 games for Northwestern in 2014-15, averaging 3.9 minutes per game. He was a three-star recruit out of high school.
