At this time last season, Nebraska was on its way to the Bay Area for the Foster Farms Bowl.
Before the Huskers took off for the game, punter Sam Foltz posted a picture of himself and a teammate in the cockpit, saying “Someone’s gotta pilot this bad boy to San Fran!!”
This year, Indiana is representing the Big Ten in the San Francisco-based bowl game. And before the Hoosiers started their trip, kicker Griffin Oakes paid tribute to Foltz, who died in a car accident over the summer. Oakes recreated the photo before takeoff, sitting in the same pilot seat.
“Only fitting brother,” he wrote on Twitter. “Same Trip. Same seat. #RIP27.”

Oakes’ tribute is just the latest in many for Foltz this season. Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler both died in an accident on July 23.
