Practice Notes: With QB AJ Bush gone, freshman Patrick O’Brien becomes third-string QB
LINCOLN, Neb. – In the midst of coach coach Mike Riley and athletic director Shawn Eichorst addressing assistant coach Keith Williams’ suspension, two other big news items came out of practice on Friday morning.
- Riley confirmed that third-string QB AJ Bush will leave the team to explore other options. Bush would have traveled with the team, Riley said. Riley wanted Bush to stay and said he has talked to Bush multiple times about this situation.
- Now, Riley is at a bind with true freshman Patrick O’Brien, who Riley said they originally wanted to redshirt this season. Now, O’Brien will take snaps at third string and will travel with the team. But, Riley said, the plan is to keep O’Brien out of games so his redshirt status is preserved.
- In other big roster news, Riley also announced that sophomore LG Jerald Foster would be out for the season with an MCL tear. Foster originally was only supposed to be out for one month, but will now miss the season. Foster was presumably going to be the starting left guard.
