Nebraska Athletics released that head coach Tim Miles will sign in-state 2017 guard Justin Costello as a walk-on.
The Omaha guard was a four-year starter for Elkhorn South and led his team to three Class B state tournament appearances. In Costello’s senior season, he averaged 18.6 points, 3.9 and 3.5 assists per game.
Costello was a three-time all-state selection and also earned first-team Class B honors from Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star.
He has the accolades and despite being walk-on, which usually entails scarce playing time, he adds a shooting dimension to the Cornhuskers for the 2018 season.
Costello hit 67 3-pointers including a game where he scored 39 points and was 9-for-11 from beyond the arc.
Costello isn’t the big-time recruit or addition to the team that’s taking Nebraska to the NCAA Tournament as far as we know, but he’s an in-state player with success in Nebraska.
