LINCOLN, Neb. — After a 9-3 regular season, Nebraska was selected on Sunday afternoon to play in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn.
The Huskers will play No. 21 Tennessee on Dec. 30. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The Outback Bowl decided on Iowa (8-4) rather than Nebraska, which dropped the Huskers down in the Big Ten bowl rotation. Nebraska lost to the Hawkeyes 40-10 on Nov. 25.
This will Nebraska’s first appearance in the Music City Bowl. The Holiday Bowl passed on Nebraska since the Huskers have played in the San Diego bowl game three times since 2009.
Tennessee (8-4) began its season 5-0 but then lost 3 straight games to Texas A&M, Alabama and South Carolina to fall out of the national conversation. The Volunteers ended the regular season with a 45-34 loss to Vanderbilt.
Nebraska won its first bowl game under second-year coach Mike Riley, beating UCLA in the Foster Farms Bowl last season.
