Nebraska’s defense, in search of a spark against Rutgers, just took a huge blow in its secondary.
Huskers’ starting safety Aaron Williams was ejected from the game after being called for targeting after delivering a hit on the Scarlet Knights’ Hunter Hayek.

Williams was ejected on the game’s first series. He wasn’t flagged initially for the hit, however officials reviewed the play and determined targeting occurred, disqualifying him from the game.
Williams was replaced by safety Kieron Williams for the rest of the Rutgers’ drive, which resulted in the Scarlet Knights taking a 7-9 lead on a two-yard touchdown run.
Williams is the Nebraska team leader in tackles prior to the game against Rutgers, as he has 23 total tackles on the season coming into Saturday’s game. That was a first targeting ejection for Nebraska this season.
The Huskers’ blackshirts are already without starting safety Josh Kalu, who’s missing his second consecutive game with an injury.
