It’s finally game week. As Nebraska prepares for the season-opening game against Fresno State, the Cornhuskers released their depth chart.
There’s nothing too surprising here, but it’s important to note that star receiver Jordan Westerkamp is listed as the No. 2 punt returner after De’Mornay Pierson-El, who was a dynamic returner as a freshman in 2014 but dealt with injuries in 2015. In 2014, Pierson-El had 596 PR yards (17.5 average on 34 returns) and three TDs before getting only four returns in 2015. Westerkamp was the team’s top returner a year ago, getting 61 yards on six returns.
Sticking with special teams, true freshman Tre Bryant is the starting kick returner. He was a 3-star recruit for 247 Sports.
Also, 4-star true freshman Lamar Jackson is a backup behind Joshua Kalu.
Nebraska is looking to improve after a 6-7 2014 season. It will go into Saturday’s 8 p.m. game as huge favorites.
