Nebraska football fell 56-14 to Ohio State on Saturday night. As a result, the Huskers once again remained No. 12 in the latest Land of 10 Power Poll, which was released Sunday.
Nebraska is now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten as the Huskers head into the bye week. It was a night of history against Ohio State on Saturday, but not the kind Nebraska fans were hoping for. The Buckeyes took advantage of the Huskers’ youth on defense, leaving many to ask where Nebraska goes from here.
The power poll consists of 13 Land of 10 voters — each of whom covers at least one Big Ten team.
Week 7 Land of 10 Power Poll vote totals
- Penn State…169 (13 first-place votes)
- Ohio State…154
- Michigan State…127
How I voted
Nebraska and Ohio State have bye weeks in Week 8, so some of my questions won’t be answered for another two weeks. For instance, I’m eager to see the Buckeyes face off against Penn State on Oct. 28. Ohio State fans chanted “Beat Penn State” after the win in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, and that will tell us a lot about those two at the top of the power poll.
As for Nebraska, the Huskers will have a shot to climb in the poll with the remaining schedule. Nebraska still has Purdue, Minnesota and Penn State on the road, as well as Northwestern and Iowa at home. There could still be wins out there for the Huskers, and those wins could help Nebraska climb.
For now, the No. 12 spot seems about right for Nebraska. It would have been hard to justify any other spot for the Huskers. As for the rest? It’s starting to sort itself out as more Big Ten teams face off.
I’m still looking forward to seeing how the top of my ballot plays out. It could get interesting.
