Nebraska dropped one spot to No. 12 in the latest Land of 10 Power Poll on Sunday. The Huskers lost 56-44 to Penn State on Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
With only five days until Nebraska’s last game of the 2017 season, coach Mike Riley is doing his best to end the season on a high note. The team is also doing what it can to keep morale high in the locker room, despite being 4-7 overall. Regardless, speculation around Riley’s future continues to gain steam and the rumors have now run rampant. It feels like it might be a bit of a roller-coaster for the Huskers in the coming weeks.
As for the rest of the Big Ten, there wasn’t anything too unexpected in Week 12 (except for the Iowa and Purdue matchup). And unsurprisingly, Wisconsin and Ohio State locked up the West and East Divisions, respectively, for a trip to the Big Ten title game Dec. 2.
The power poll consists of 12 Land of 10 voters — each of whom covers at least one Big Ten team.

How I voted
My poll wasn’t too different from my colleagues, although I wasn’t as high on Indiana as others. My apologies to the Hoosiers.
Whatever the case, everything after No. 3 in the Power Poll is a bit of a mess to rank. You have to take wins and losses into account, as well as who has beaten whom and what the strength of schedule is. I’d be lying if I said it was easy to sort out.
With one week left in the regular season, I’ll be curious to compare the first week of my Power Poll rankings to the last. It’ll be interesting to see how it ultimately shaped up. I remember saying things would become clearer by this point. If only I’d known it would become more complicated by the end.
Here is my full ballot for the poll this week:
- Ohio State
- Penn State
