University of Nebraska’s chancellor noted his displeasure with the school’s football team during his state of the university speech on Tuesday.
“We certainly are frustrated at the moment at the level of performance on the field and are hoping, pulling for our team to improve over the course of the next several weeks,” chancellor Ronnie Green said, according to the Lincoln Journal-Star. “Like most of Husker Nation, we’re certainly frustrated.”
Green, who reportedly requested extensions for coach Mike Riley and athletic director Shawn Eichorst this year, still advocated for Riley and Eichorst. He also said Eichorst’s impromptu press conference after Nebraska’s loss to Northern Illinois was the athletic director’s idea, and was not an order from anyone higher up.
“Shawn’s his own leader. He’s a very effective leader,” Green said. “That was his choice, I think a wise choice on his part.”
