Nebraska AD Shawn Eichorst has been named to the Division I Football Competition Committee, the school announced Tuesday.
The committee puts together ideas and research to help the game. Healthy and safety are a major focus.
The 13-member committee is made up of:
- One student-athlete (Ohio State’s Austin Mack)
- Three current head coaches (Wyoming’s Craig Bohl, South Alabama’s Joey Jones, North Carolina’s Larry Fedora)
- One faculty athletics representative (SMU’s Paul Rogers)
- Eight Division I athletic administrators (Arizona State’s Ray Anderson, Nebraska’s Shawn Eichorst, Mid-American Conference’s Jon Steinbrecher, Colgate’s Vicky Chun, Big 12’s Ed Stewart, Conference USA’s Merton Hanks, Florida’s Scott Stricklin, Youngstown State’s Ron Strollo)
Eichorst had previously served on the Football Oversight Committee in 2015. That committee will oversee the Competition Committee. Anderson, Steinbrecher, Rogers and Chun are also members of the Oversight Committee.

Ray Anderson, Arizona State’s vice president for athletics, is the committee chair.
“This committee’s main purpose is to work to collect ideas and conduct appropriate research to continue to move the game forward,” Anderson said in a release. “Focusing on health and safety and continuing to ensure the sport is exciting to play and watch will also be critical in our work.”
