Nebraska basketball officially is not a member of the 68-team NCAA Tournament field. The selection committee revealed the full group on Selection Sunday, and as expected, the Huskers were left out.
The Huskers finished the regular season at 22-9 with a 13-5 record in Big Ten play. They received the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, but needed a few wins in the conference tournament to make their NCAA Tournament case. Instead, Nebraska fell in their first game to eventual tournament champion Michigan.
As CBS Sports noted, it’s only happened twice in the history of the expanded NCAA Tournament (since 1985) that a major conference team has won at least 13 games in its conference but failed to receive an at-large bid. Those two instances took place in 2012 with both teams coming from the Pac-12.
Nebraska will have to look elsewhere for postseason play. The NIT selection show will take place at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU, so stay tuned..
