Keyshawn Johnson Jr. will not be part of Nebraska’s program under Scott Frost. Johnson announced that he will not return to the Huskers in a tweet on Friday afternoon.

“Thank you Coach Riley and The University of Nebraska for giving me the opportunity to play at the Division 1 level. Although it was a short stand, it was one that I will never forget,” Johnson wrote. “With that being said I will be furthering my academic and football career at a different Division 1 college.”

Johnson, a wide receiver, was part of Nebraska’s 2017 recruiting class under Mike Riley and was and was an early enrollee in Lincoln last spring. However, Johnson was pulled from school by his father, former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson Sr., after the incoming freshman was cited for marijuana possession in a dorm room over the summer.

Johnson Jr. was not part of the Huskers’ program this fall, but he had planned to return to Nebraska for the 2018 spring semester. Even after Riley was fired, Johnson Sr. initially said his son intended to return to Lincoln. Those plans have obviously changed in the last three weeks.

Johnson Jr., who was the No. 44 wide receiver in the 2017 class, will have four years of eligibility wherever he ends up.
