There has been no lack of shared memories in the wake of Sam Foltz’s tragic death.
The Nebraska punter meant a great deal to a lot of people, including his former coach, Bo Pelini. Now coaching at Youngstown State, Pelini worked with Foltz for three seasons and issued a statement on Monday about his former punter.
“Sam was a tremendous person who came from an outstanding family,” said Pelini. “I was privileged to be his coach for three seasons. He was someone who always made a difference on and off the field and was well respected and loved by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, the entire Foltz family, and all his current and former teammates and coaches.”
Foltz began his career with the Huskers as a walk-on, but he earned a scholarship before the 2014 season. He was named the Big Ten’s punter of the year for his efforts last season and was a Ray Guy Watch List candidate entering the 2016 season.
