LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska snagged the No. 10 spot in the first week of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday.
The No. 10 ranking is the highest Nebraska has ever been ranked in the CFP Poll. Its highest previous was in 2014, when the Huskers were No. 15.
Nebraska (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) will play Ohio State this weekend.
Nebraska still controls its own destiny to the playoff, most likely. If it beats the Buckeyes on Saturday, then wins out in the regular season and wins the Big Ten Championship, there’s little chance it doesn’t get in. But that’s a lot of ifs.
Coach Mike Riley was measured at his weekly press conference this week.
“You either rise up and compete or get left in the dust,” Riley said of this week’s game.
“As we head into these last ballgames the standings become more real. It’s better to be where we are with a lead. And we have to fight like crazy to keep it.”
