While college coaches have trekked from coast-to-coast this summer chasing the glitz and glamour of satellite camps, there is still nothing more valuable in recruiting than this time-tested, traditional method: Get great players to visit your campus. Nebraska and Mike Riley are doing that in spades this weekend.
The Cornhuskers are expecting ten 4-star prospects on their campus this weekend as Riley and his staff open the gates of Memorial Stadium for their version of Friday Night Lights.

Who is expected in Lincoln? Here’s a look at the top names headed to Nebraska this weekend, starting with some of the Huskers top uncommitted targets.
- 5-star wide receiver Joseph Lewis
- 5-star wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey
- 4-star defensive back Ambry Thomas
- 4-star defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell
That group will no doubt get an extra dose of attention from three key members of the 2017 recruiting class, Calabasas, California teammates Tristan Gebbia and Keyshawn Johnson, Jr., each of whom will make the trek to Nebraska once more and Columbia, Mo. 4-star wide receiver Jaevon McQuitty. One of the country’s premier 2018 standouts, defensive back Brendan Radley-Hiles, is another teammate of Gebbia and Johnson who will be making the visit.
“Nebraska has the opportunity to really make a statement with this collection of talent on campus,” Schaefer told Landof10.com “For several of these guys it’ll be at least their second time on campus and they’ll continue to grow relationships with Nebraska’s staff. This is a huge chance to really sell the Huskers as a program on the rise and one that’s looking to rebuild itself in the image of its heyday.”
Getting top talent to Lincoln is the goal and to do it in the summer, for unofficial visits paid for by recruits and their families? That’s a good sign for the future.
“Getting this collection of talent to Lincoln on its own dime?” Schaefer said. “That is impressive. Mike Riley’s staff has every intention of putting together a top 15 class.”
