Nebraska football loses energy in Eugene; bowl projections for Huskers after Week 2

Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Huskers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Huskers football, recruiting, basketball and more.

It’s a 1-1 start

Nebraska is now 1-1 after losing 42-35 to Oregon on Saturday. The loss showed just how far the Huskers’ offense has to go, while also highlighting what happens when the defense lacks energy.

Needless to say, Nebraska had a shot to win but couldn’t make it happen.

A bowl game update

If the season ended today, Nebraska would still head to the Taxslayer Bowl on Dec. 30. Tickets are currently going for $110 if you’re interested in booking now (and taking that risk).

Ameer Abdullah on Tre Bryant

Is Tre Bryant a better running back than Ameer Abdullah? Abdullah thinks so if you ask him. Unfortunately, Bryant appeared to hurt his right knee on Saturday but no further updates are known. Coach Mike Riley may have an update at his weekly press conference on Monday.

No. 10

That’s where Nebraska is currently ranked in Land of 10’s latest Power Poll. Things should get back on track for Nebraska in the coming weeks, but it’s definitely a concerning place to be after Week 2.

Speaking of polls …

Nebraska received no votes in both the AP Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll this week. Considering the Huskers only received one after last week, it’s not too shocking.

Let’s go, Fraport Skyliners

Need a new team to root for? How about the German professional team Fraport Skyliners? Former Nebraska basketball guard Tai Webster has signed with the team, after all.
