P.J. Fleck will be able to use his signature phrase at his new job, after all.
Fleck reached a deal with Western Michigan University for trademark rights to the phrase “Row The Boat.” The 36-year-old coach popularized the phrase during his successful run with the Broncos. He now officially owns it after a $50,000 deal, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

Western Michigan trademarked the phrase in 2015 and sold “Row The Boat” merchandise the last two years. The mantra became synonymous with Fleck, and it was how he ended nearly every television interview and tweet.
When Fleck took the Minnesota job in early January, it looked like the phrase would stay in Kalamazoo. However, there were reports last week that a deal was in the works to get “Row The Boat” to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
In addition to the phrase, Fleck brought multiple 2017 recruits with him to Minnesota who were originally committed to Western Michigan. Fleck and the Gophers will hit the field for their first spring practices together next month.
