Smith, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound redshirt junior from Milwaukee, had 17 catches for 279 yards and one touchdown this year. He also made a solid contribution last year, starting a handful of games and catching 1 touchdown pass.
The Golden Gophers will continue to turn to leading receiver Drew Wolitarsky, who has 40 catches for 514 yards and three scores. They also have Rodney Smith and Tyler Johnson, who each have 13 catches for more than 100 yards.
Minnesota hosts Purdue at 3:30 p.m. ET this Saturday.
