Earlier in the week, Minnesota unveiled its new H.Y.P.R.R. Elite uniforms that it will wear in the 2018 college football season and beyond.
The jerseys, which were created by Nike, gives the Golden Gophers more than 100 possible jersey combinations. This includes four new pants, three jerseys and three helmets, as well as various facemarks, socks and cleats.
The fans and the players aren’t the only people excited about the new uniforms, though. Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck expressed his excitement about the uniforms in a video released by Minnesota football’s Twitter account.

In the video, Fleck pointed out that the uniforms incorporate every aspect of the team’s culture.
“I think these uniforms embrace all of our four areas of our culture – academically, athletically, socially and spiritually – about what our philosophies are,” Fleck said.
In addition, Fleck shined a light on the process Minnesota and Nike went through when creating these uniforms.
“[Nike] wanted to know what our program was about,” Fleck said. “We wanted to become a faster football team, we wanted to move at an urgent pace. So they asked us questions like, ‘What’s your favorite car.’ They wanted to take that type of that design, in terms of the speed and aggressiveness of that car, and we wanted to encompass the past present and future. And very subtlety we have the ore, the boat and the compass involved in it , as well as the Ski-Uh-Mah. So it’s really exciting, and I think Nike knocked it out of the park.”
Fleck also discussed the importance of these uniforms. He wants the uniforms to not only make the current players happy, but he also wants the alumni, fans and future players to be excited about them.
“You want to make your 17- to 22-year-old players in the program happy first,” Fleck said. “You want them to be excited. They’re the ones that have to go out there and do it every single Saturday. Then you look at our alumni. You want to be able to embrace everybody whose ever played at the University of Minnesota, and who will play at the University of Minnesota.
“Then you have to look at our boosters and our fans, that they can add to their collection of Gopher football and Gopher sports. We want to be able to encompass all of that, but now we are talking about recruiting as well. Where, we have to get the best players in the country, we have to get the best people in the country. We have to be able to show them where our brand is headed and how we are going to continue to evolve over the entire year and not stay stationary.”
Fleck also pointed out that he really like the deep maroon color that is featured in the uniforms, as well as the different types of gold.
Minnesota will debut their new uniforms in its season opener against New Mexico State on Aug. 30.
