Mafe, from Hopkins, Minn., is 6 feet 4 and 225 pounds. 247Sports ranks him the No. 74 weak side defensive end in the nation and No. 6 prospect in the state of Minnesota in the Class of 2017.
With his commitment, Minnesota currently ranks No. 12 in the Big Ten and No. 56 in the nation for 2017.
The Gophers are finishing up their first recruiting class under new coach P.J. Fleck. The coach took over at the program in early January, leaving him with less than a month to put together a class.
