It was over before it even realistically began.
On Thursday, Minnesota 7-foot center Matz Stockman announced that he was transferring from the program.
“I am incredibly appreciative of the opportunity that coach (Richard) Pitino and the University has given me to earn my degree,” Stockman said in a statement. “I have truly enjoyed my time in Minnesota as a part of the basketball program. However, after discussions with my family, I have decided that this is the best decision for me personally.”
Stockman began his collegiate basketball career at Louisville and played three seasons. He then transferred to Minnesota and sat out this past season because of NCAA rules. Stockman was then eligible to play this upcoming season, but has decided that he wants to take his talents elsewhere.
The big man earned his degree and once he transfers, will be eligible to play immediately. Stockman is from Oslo, Norway, and averaged 4.1 minutes per game during his third season at Louisville. He was a 3-star prospect coming out of high school, according to 247Sports.
