Minnesota men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino announced that former Pitt guard Marcus Carr is transferring to Minnesota.
After playing one year with Pittsburgh in the 2017-18 college basketball season, Carr will join the Gophers with three years of on-court eligibility remaining.
“Marcus performed at a high level as a freshman in the ACC all year,” Pitino said in a release on Saturday. “He’s been good at every level. He will be a terrific addition to our basketball program. Gopher fans will love Marcus Carr.”

According to NCAA transfer rules, Carr will have to sit out the 2018-19 season before he can play for Minnesota.
The 6-foot-2 guard played in all 32 games for the Panthers last season, starting in all but five. The Toronto native averaged 28.6 minutes, 10 points and 4 assists per game. In addition, Carr led the team in assists (129), ranked third on the team in scoring and led the team with 20 steals.
