Hide the women and children (and trash cans): The Minnesota Gophers’ wacky gang of specialists have a new video out
Quick quiz, hot shot: What do you get when you combine:
- The theme from “Rocky?”
- A trash can?
- A swimming pool?
- Golden Gophers kickers with too much dang time on their hands?
Well, you get this:

Yes, the people who brought you this … and this … and this are back in the video biz, kids! The Twitter feed maintained by the University of Minnesota’s special teams crew — or perhaps, maintained by their family; or their friends; or perhaps people to whom they owe money — posted a new magnum opus to one of the Big Ten’s more varied, irreverent and entertaining social media accounts on Aug. 25.
In the 28-second clip, a man in maroon helmet tackles a bin. Then five guys hold hands and fall into a pool. Then a kicker is glaringly roughed. The video ends with a man — possibly the same man, possibly someone else — tackling another bin, only leaping horizontally over a white table first. Then said man screams as if an overly caffeinated ferret was just dropped down his maroon shorts. And … cut.
(Our favorite moment: When freshman long snapper Trey Hansen, No. 39, takes what appears to be a long snap off his right pectoral, only slightly flinching in the process.)
The Gophs return one of the Big Ten’s better legs at punter in junior Ryan Santoso (17-for-21 on field goals in 2015), who’s switched positions as a replacement for the departed Peter “Holder of the Year” Mortell.

And if you think you’ve got what it takes — as the video implies — to run with this bunch, folks, you better be sure to bring a helmet.
Or swim trunks.
