Everyone and his mother know the magnitude of Michigan-Ohio State.
For Wolverines quarterback Wilton Speight, he reminisced about the 30-27 double overtime loss to the Buckeyes of a year ago on the Monday Michigan radio show and called it “probably the biggest rivalry in any sport.”
“There’s multiple nights this offseason where I thought about that game, lost sleep over that game,” Speight said. “The good thing is, this is a new season. You look ahead to Ohio State, but we’ve got a game this week against Purdue.”
This week may feature a game against Purdue, but Ohio State is obviously on the redshirt junior’s mind — as it should be. From a pure football perspective, of course, you want to take one game at a time.
For what it’s worth, Speight was asked about a passing touchdown against the Buckeyes from a year ago on the radio show. He didn’t randomly bring up the game and rivalry out of nowhere.
But, he did say it best. He lost sleep over the offseason because of the thriller that ended the 2016 regular season. Purdue is the here and now, but Ohio State is coming.
And Speight knows it.
