A team in Michigan currently has the best Big Ten record in the country.
No, it’s not the No. 4 Wolverines or the No. 8 Spartans – both of whom start their Big Ten slates at home on Saturday. Instead it’s the Western Michigan Broncos, who are off to a 3-0 start and have wins over Northwestern and Illinois.
Now, Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck is inviting fans of Michigan and Michigan State to come to the Broncos’ 7 p.m. home game against Georgia Southern on Saturday in Kalamazoo.
“Whether you’re a Wolverine or you’re a Sparty, that’s fine, you can all be Broncos, we will take you,” P.J. Fleck told MLive. “Come on down and see the night game.”
The Spartans face No. 11 Wisconsin in East Lansing at noon and Michigan hosts Penn State at 3:30 on Saturday.
Fleck has turned Western Michigan around. After going 1-11 in his first season (2013), the Broncos are looking like a contender for a MAC title. They even received six votes in the latest AP poll after a 30-14 win over Illinois.
“Now we’ve got to be able to react on that. When we were 1-11 people said ‘yeah, well when you win we’ll come back,” Fleck said. “Well here we go, we’re starting to win, not only that we’re starting to win on a national stage.”
