Jim Harbaugh and Lovie Smith have both coached on football’s biggest stage.
Smith led the Chicago Bears to Super Bowl XLI, while Harbaugh took the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII. Though they both came up short in the big game, the two will make history on Saturday when their current teams meet on the college gridiron.
When Michigan hosts Illinois on Saturday, it will be the first time in college football history that two former Super Bowl head coaches will square off against one another. Illinois pointed this fact out on Twitter.

The pair coached against each other during the 2012 NFL season, when Harbaugh’s 49ers bested Smith’s Bears, 32-7. Smith is in his first season as the Illini’s head coach, looking to turn around a program, while Harbaugh has national title hopes in his second year at Michigan.
