Michigan has the best defense in the country.
That is proven with traditional stats, as the Wolverines lead the nation in both scoring defense (10.3 points per game) and total defense (212.8 yards per game). But a look at some analytics show just how much better Michigan’s defense has been than anyone else’s this season.

All of the analytic statistics can be found on Football Outsiders (and yes, the statistics are explained).
In more traditional football statistics, Michigan has also looked impressive. The Wolverines are allowing just 3.6 yards per play and opponents have scored just seven offensive touchdowns in seven games.
In four Big Ten games, the No. 2 Wolverines have surrendered just 25 points. They shut out Rutgers and the touchdowns they allowed to Penn State and Illinois both came when the games were out of reach.
Michigan also went on a five-quarter stretch of outscoring opponents 99-0 in five quarters.
