LOS ANGELES — Michigan math never fails, baby: 22 + 6 = 28-0.
As in every time Duncan Robinson, No. 22, scores at least six points — which has happened 28 times this season for the Final Four-bound Wolverines, West regional champions of the 2018 NCAA Tournament — Michigan comes away victorious.
“The coaches’ kids are always like, ‘Just score 6 points, just score 6 points,’” Robinson mused after the Wolverines topped Florida State, 58-54, to clinch a Final Four berth in San Antonio next weekend.
“And it’s like — I guess it’s that easy.”

See? Science: 22 + 6 = 28-0.
“It’s kind of an arbitrary number,” the fifth-year swing man from New Hampshire said.
And that number almost didn’t happen. Robinson, who finished with seven points, was held scoreless in the first half and stuck on 2 points for roughly 12 of the final 20 minutes.
But a pair of free throws with 21 seconds on the clock accounted for his sixth and seventh points of the evening, putting Michigan up 58-54 and literally — not just circumstantially — sealing the victory.
Again, it never fails: 22 + 6 = 28-0.
“I don’t really know how it all checks out,” said Robinson, the Big Ten’s Sixth Man of the Year. “But someone crunched the numbers on that, so I guess we’re undefeated. So I’ll keep trying to score 6.”
Heck, he could’ve had more. With Michigan up 58-54 and with 13 seconds left on the clock, Robinson chased down a long rebound off a 3-point miss by the Seminoles’ PJ Savoy.
With 10 seconds remaining, Florida State defender Terance Mann bodied up to Robinson but made a point not to foul. The Wolverines senior responded by dribbling to daylight as time expired.
“I was a little surprised,” Robinson recalled.
All together now: 22 + 6 = 28-0.
Hey, maybe Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton — the one who called off the dogs — is a believer, too.
We won bc Robinson scored more than 6 (7) points

Michigan being 28-0 when Duncan Robinson scores at least 6 points in a game is the funniest obscure stat to me. He reached 6 tonight with his second to last FT and finished with 7 to seal the game at 58-54.

Because, you know, science.
“There are significantly worse things,” Robinson chuckled, “to be paired with your name.”
