It’s the start of the new cycle for the 2018 recruiting class. What does that mean? It means new names and new faces that Michigan is after and that you need to learn.
A big name to keep in mind, that not many have discussed in regard to the Wolverines, is Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan Catholic 5-star ILB Teradja Mitchell – the top-ranked recruit at his position in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite.
A heavy favorite to choose Florida State right now, with 10 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions favoring the Seminoles, Mitchell isn’t going to jump on a commitment to any school anytime soon.
With a host of visits in his mind, Mitchell went in-depth with Land of 10 on the latest developments in his highly anticipated recruitment.
On being the top-ranked inside linebacker: “It’s not about the rankings anymore. It was when I first got the ranking, I was pretty hype then. But now, I don’t even pay attention to it.”
On his relationship with Michigan: “I talk to linebackers coach Chris Partridge the most. Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to build a great relationship. We’ve been talking about me taking a visit up there.”
On what he likes most about Michigan: “Beyond just football, I really like their business program. That’s what I want to do after football, so it means a lot … I love Jordan; those navy blue jerseys, there’s just something about them.”
On the class Michigan built in 2017, and Michigan’s elite recruiting: “Iron sharpens iron, so the (good recruits going there) plays a big role. The coaches are great, and the players from around here think they can develop me into the best I can be. That, too, plays a big role.”
Thoughts on Jim Harbaugh: “I’ve talked to him a couple of times before … I love him. He’s different, and I like that. There’s no other coach like him – he’s one of a kind.”
On his top schools: “It’s an even playing field right now. I’m just seeing what schools can offer me, taking visits and whichever one fits me best.”
On what schools he will visit: “I will be visiting Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida and LSU during the spring.”
Mitchell has a top 11 consisting of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia Tech and USC.
Listing the schools doesn’t do justice to how he announced his top schools – with a cake.
