Wilton Speight has come a long way.
He went from the player seen on HBO getting chewed out by Jim Harbaugh. He also redshirted during Michigan’s 2014 season, when the Wolverines went 5-7 in what was Brady Hoke’s final year as Michigan’s coach.
Now he’s the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns against Central Florida. But that 2014 season? It wasn’t great. He said he checked out that year, and MLive.com‘s Nick Baumgardner reported a pretty strong Speight quote about the struggles.
“I didn’t know what was going on that year. Not many people did.”
Wilton Speight on his redshirt year (2014): 'I didn't know what was going on that year. Not many people did.'

As for getting yelled at by Harbaugh as seen on HBO? Speight said the incident got his attention.
Speight on Harbaugh chewing him out on HBO show last year: "I didn't like having it on HBO for the world to see" laughing about it.

Speight will try to keep building on his success when Michigan plays Colorado on Saturday.
