The University of Michigan’s Bentley Library released a questionnaire on Thursday that Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh filled out for the school’s sports information office in 1982. The form served as the permanent record in Harbaugh’s athletic file, which included his biographical information, previous athletic experience, honors received and miscellaneous other information.
He listed his reasons for choosing Michigan as the “coaching staff, winning tradition, play in front of 100,000 fans, chance to play in Rose Bowl.” He had also considered Stanford, Wisconsin and Arizona for college.
Harbaugh left two questions blank: his good luck sports superstition and the toughest opponent he had ever played.
He listed his favorite TV show as The Rockford Files and his favorite sports personality was former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight. His favorite sports teams were Western Michigan, the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Tigers. Harbaugh listed AC/DC and Sammy Hagar as his favorite musicians.
Harbaugh played quarterback for Michigan from 1982-86, becoming one of the most efficient passers in NCAA history and a first team All-American.
