It’s the offseason, but recruiting never stops in Ann Arbor, Mich., where Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines are building their classes of the future. Check Land of 10 daily for the latest inside the Michigan recruiting room.
2019 ATH Ronnie Hickman is high on Michigan, knows two current players well
Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic athlete Ronnie Hickman is an early name to keep an eye on in the 2019 class.
The lacrosse star has offers to play that sport, but the focus remains on football for the player ranked No. 120 overall by 247Sports.

During the Under Armour All-America Camp Series in New Jersey on Sunday, Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue caught up with the highly touted prospect.
Hickman took a visit to Ann Arbor earlier this spring and shed some light on how that trip went.
“I loved it. I mean, it’s Michigan, so it’s hard not to like it,” Hickman told Donohue. “It’s a great school and I really enjoyed my time on campus.”
Hickman’s school is very familiar with the Wolverines, having sent two players from the 2016 class to Ann Arbor in running back Kareem Walker and defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour.
He’s known the two DePaul Catholic alumni since their time in Wayne. And they’re well aware of his growth since then.
“They’ve been recruiting me ever since they saw I got that offer on Twitter,” he said. “I spent some time with them when I went up there for a visit.”
Hickman said he’s close with the duo and they continue to speak with him about Michigan.
Can that relationship push the Wolverines closer to landing another star from New Jersey?
As we know, if it’s a top-notch Jersey kid, the odds are typically in Michigan’s favor.
So far, Ohio State is the favorite for Hickman with six 247Sports crystal ball predictions. Other options include Boston College, Penn State and Maryland.
It will be interesting to see if any of these schools offer him the opportunity to play both sports.
Michael Tarquin talks recent rise in offers, Michigan offer
Sticking to the script of highly touted 2019 prospects, Belleview (Fla.) 4-star OT Michael Tarquin is an early top-ranked guy.
As 247Sports’ No. 104 overall prospect, Tarquin has nearly 20 offers as a sophomore.
Recently, Tarquin has received an abundance of Big Ten offers, including ones from Michigan and Ohio State.

How did this come about?
“I’ve been talking with [Michigan State] coaches, Coach [Brad] Salem and Coach [Mark] Staten, for about a year and a half now,” he told Land of 10’s Luke Srodulski in an interview. “Aside from that, I was talking with the Ohio State coaches as well. They offered me this week. That was my first Big Ten offer, so I was really excited about that. And then Michigan offered me.”
So what is Tarquin, who has 14 offers, looking for in a school?
“I just really have to like the coaches. I have to be comfortable with them,” he said. “Academics are definitely a big factor. And I’ve just got to be comfortable with the school, got to really like the school.”
As far as Michigan, he wants to take a trip up to Ann Arbor soon.
Expect that visit to come in the summer, or in the fall for a game.
“It’s a great program. Lot of good history there. It’s just a huge offer. I’m very excited about it,” he said. “They’ve done well this past season. Coach [Jim] Harbaugh seems like a great coach. So does [tackles and tight ends] coach Greg Frey.”
With the Buckeyes and Spartans being the two other Big Ten teams in the mix, things will be interesting in the recruitment of this Florida star.
Two teams have crystal ball predictions: Miami and Michigan State. There’s only three total predictions, and the ‘Canes possess two.
Even Tarquin will tell you he’s waiting.
“As of now, I’m still trying to figure things out, but I do want to go visit those schools up north that have offered me.”
