After speaking highly of Michigan at Nike’s The Opening Miami regional in April, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School 2019 4-star safety Josh Sanguinetti is ready to get to Ann Arbor.
He will be unofficially visiting the Wolverines on Thursday in hopes of learning more about the program.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the campus and how the players and coaches interact with each other,” he said. “I want to see if there’s a family atmosphere.”
The 6-foot, 173-pound defensive back has offers to play for Michigan, Nebraska, Stanford, Auburn, Baylor, Bowling Green, Colorado State, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, Missouri, N.C. State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, USC, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
“Michigan has a great football program and great education,” Sanguinetti said.
The prospect’s primary recruiter at Michigan is defensive backs coach Michael Zordich.
“We have a really nice relationship,” he said.
Sanguinetti does not have any official visits set. Lately, he has been hearing a lot from Nebraska, Michigan, Ole Miss, Florida and LSU, but is still interested in Stanford and Miami.
He said Ohio State is in the mix, but falling out fast due to lack of contact.
Michigan will “for sure” get an official visit during the regular season. Sanguinetti will announce his commitment and sign on National Signing Day, which is Feb. 6, he said.
“Playing early and academics [are important],” Sanguinetti said to Land of 10. “I want to major in business. I want to own my own company. I don’t want to work for anybody else other than myself.”
Sanguinetti visited the Hurricanes on June 19. The team already has two defensive back prospects committed to the 2019 class.
In the 2018 season for University School, Sanguinetti had 60 tackles, 12 pass breakups and 7 interceptions. He is ranked No. 164 in his class, No. 9 at his position and No. 23 in Florida, according to 247Sports composite.
Sanguinetti is competing in The Opening Finals, beginning on June 30, for Team Overdrive. He will also play in the 2019 Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu on Saturday, Jan. 19.
