Nothing says football offseason like a “mock.” The most prevalent are the mock drafts that accompany the NFL draft, but with National Signing Day upon us in one day, Land of 10 decided to project what Michigan’s 2018 recruiting class will look like when the fax machines are dusted off and the national letters of intent start rolling into the offices at Schembechler Hall.
Here are the players Land of 10 Michigan projects will make up the Wolverines 2018 recruiting class. The fact that 16 of them signed in December makes this mock class a lot easier, but we are also projecting five players to join them, including Otis Reese. His recruitment has been a toss-up between Michigan and Georgia since last summer. Reese is the No. 87 overall prospect in the country and the No. 5 outside linebacker, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Michigan is recruiting him with the idea of playing him as the viper (hybrid linebacker/safety) in defensive coordinator Don Brown’s scheme.

In addition to Reese, Land of 10 Michigan is projecting the Wolverines will get signed national letters of intent from their three other commits: cornerback Vincent Gray, athlete Michael Barrett and wide receiver Ronnie Bell. Bell was a commit in December who was forced to wait until now to sign because of the NCAA rule that prevents athletes from signing more than one letter of intent per calendar year. Bell had signed to play basketball at Missouri State in November before changing his mind. He caught 89 passes for 1,605 yards and 21 touchdowns in leading Kansas City Park Hill High School to the Missouri Class 6 state semifinals.
Gray and Barrett committed to the Wolverines in January. Barrett was named the Georgia Class 7A Offensive Player of the Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after accounting for 2,900 total yards and 29 touchdowns as the quarterback at Lowndes High School in Valdosta. He is expected to play running back for the Wolverines. Michigan signed two running backs, Christian Turner and Hassan Haskins, in the Dec. 20-22 early period.
The class size is projected to be 20 players. Michigan signed a total of 56 players combined in the 2016 and 2017 classes. Fifty-one of them remain on the roster.
