ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan will hit the road in June as its coaches and staff members participate in satellite camps across the country.
Michigan has not officially released its schedule of satellite camps for this summer, but several college football programs have announced Michigan will staff programs at individual campuses. College football coaches can travel to camps and clinics at other colleges — known as satellite camps — around the country to work with high school players.
The Wolverines’ satellite camp docket includes eight camps at seven schools, including camps in Washington D.C., South Florida and Georgia. Michigan’s coaching staff will continue to play host to camps on their Ann Arbor campus.
The satellite camps schedule will not be as ambitious as in years past. Two years ago, the NCAA placed restrictions on satellite camps that limit them to 10 days in June and July and require them to be held only on college campuses. The rules change came a year after coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff worked at nearly 40 camps in 2016, a schedule that included camps in the United States, American Samoa and Australia.
Michigan plans to divide its coaching staff among the camp sites.
“There’s going to be a lot of them that we participate in,” Harbaugh told reporters this month in Toledo, Ohio. “It’s not like years past where we send the whole staff to each camp.
“There’s going to be two to three coaches at each camp.”
Among the camps scheduled for Michigan’s campus are the Wolverines’ Big Man Camp, which is geared toward offensive and defensive linemen, and two prospects camps.
“We’re going to have four or five days of them in Ann Arbor with big camps on June 9 and June 18, and our coaches will also go out to the Midwest, the East Coast, the South and a few on the West Coast,” Harbaugh said in April on his podcast, Attack Each Day. “There’s obviously been a change in the rules. Satellite camps now have to be held on a college campus and not at a high school.”
