Michigan’s Rashan Gary and new Wolverines signee Aubrey Solomon apparently already have a nickname.
As the two get ready to (they hope) dominate as teammates on the defensive line, Michigan coaches have a nickname to describe the duo: “Thunder and Lightning.”
ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren reports that Solomon, who announced his Michigan choice Wednesday on National Signing Day, said the coaches told Solomon about the nickname.

Solomon, the 5-star DT from Lee County in Georgia, is the No. 25 prospect for 2017. He’s also No. 2 nationally at defensive tackle. He’ll now get to work with former 5-star recruit Rashan Gary, the No. 1 recruit from 2016. During his freshman season with the Wolverines, Gary had 27 total tackles, with five tackles for loss and one sack.
It’s not the first time “Thunder and Lightning” has been used to describe a potentially powerful duo. Clemson had it with C.J. Spiller and James Davis, and the New York Giants used it with Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber.

With Solomon’s announcement, the Wolverines are putting together one of the country’s best recruiting classes for 2017. Michigan will likely finish with a top-5 class and behind only Ohio State in the Big Ten.
