Michigan’s men’s basketball team got an unexpected visit on Friday from former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin in anticipation of its matchup against Maryland.
The two-time Super Bowl champion, who said he has a “strong connection” with Wolverines coach John Belein, delivered a speech to the entire team.
“The message is team-team-team, that’s always the message,” Coughlin told MGoBlue.com, adding that he told the story of his New York Giants defeating the undefeated Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl.

Michigan’s football program receiving special visits from prominent coaches and athletes has been well-publicized. This time, the basketball program got a unique opportunity.
Coughlin will be in the stands for the Wolverines’ game against Maryland on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled to take place at 3:15 p.m. ET.
