There are eight days until National Signing Day on Feb. 1, and Michigan is looking for another top-5 class. Check Land of 10 daily for an update on what’s to come in Ann Arbor.
Mekhi Becton breaks down the visit from Jim Harbaugh
Michigan’s final offensive line target is Highland Springs (Va.) OT Mekhi Becton, a 3-star prospect according to 247Sports. As of last weekend, following his official visit to Virginia Tech, the Hokies hold a slim lead for Becton.
So Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh trotted down to Highland Springs on Tuesday night to watch Becton play some hoops.

We have kept you as updated as possible with Becton, but he, like plenty of other Michigan targets, has been pretty reserved regarding his recruitment. Land of 10 was able to speak with Becton about seeing Harbaugh in the stands, then getting to talk to the head coach and offensive coordinator Tim Drevno after the game.
“It went good,” Becton said of the visit. “They showed me a copy of the depth chart, and said they need me … it means a lot.”
There’s no certainty on whether Michigan took the lead back from Virginia Tech, as we’ll have to see how the Hokies’ visit to his place goes — assuming they take one this week.
But when asked if the Wolverines did regain the lead, Becton put it pretty simply:
Regardless, Michigan communicated to Becton its need for him at offensive tackle. At 6 feet 7, 345 pounds, Becton has the ceiling Michigan needs at tackle. And Michigan still thinks it will pull off a Becton commitment on National Signing Day.
My 247Sports Crystal Ball isn’t in yet but, despite the overwhelming picks to Virginia Tech, I still like Michigan to pull this one out.
Dallas Gant discusses Michigan offer, bigger picture
It’s never too early to begin looking ahead at next year’s class. Toledo (Ohio) St. John’s Jesuit 4-star LB Dallas Gant is one of the nation’s best in the 2018 class, sitting at No. 132 overall and the No. 6 among all outside linebackers according to 247Sports.
Gant is a very early Ohio State favorite, managing 8 Crystal Ball predictions already tabbing him to the Buckeyes.
Land of 10 was able to catch up with Gant regarding not only his interest in Michigan, but the bigger picture ahead for him.
Gant’s dad grew up a Michigan fan, and still is to this day. So while his dad won’t push him to go one way or the other, there is at least one maize-and-blue fan around him daily. Gant himself grew up a Buckeyes fan, but said that changed when he got older … when he became a Michigan State fan.
So with that thought in mind — where does this put Michigan?
“I’m pretty strongly considering (Michigan),” Gant said. “I look forward to building this relationship with the staff. And hopefully getting up for a visit.”
Gant isn’t too far away from Ann Arbor — about a 45-minute drive — and Harbaugh isn’t afraid to infiltrate Toledo’s talent to bring them North. One of the best players not only in Ohio but the entire country, 4-star DE James Hudson, will soon sign to Michigan as a part of the 2017 class.
So don’t write off Michigan just yet for Gant, as there is an entire year until he has to make his decision.
