One of the top 2018 recruits in Michigan just gave a verbal commitment to leave the state.
Kalon Gervin, a 4-star cornerback from Detroit powerhouse Cass Tech, announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday morning. Gervin was a top 2018 in-state target for both Michigan and Michigan State.

Gervin is rated as the third-best 2018 prospect in Michigan by 247Sports. The recruiting service also ranks him as the No. 20 cornerback in the class and No. 164 overall recruit.
Gervin has more than 30 offers, including the pair from Michigan’s two in-state powers, but he committed to the Irish after an offer last week and visit over the weekend. On the visit, Gervin was with Ovie Oghoufo, the seventh-ranked 2018 recruit from Michigan, who is also committed to Notre Dame.
A 5-foot-11 corner, Gervin had taken multiple unofficial visits to East Lansing, including one on Jan. 29. He also unofficially visited Ann Arbor last fall.
A lot can still happen in the 2018 recruiting cycle. But, for now, Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio have some work to do in their home state.
