Newburg also had offers from Michigan State, Iowa, Rutgers and Cincinnati, among other schools. He did not have an offer from Ohio State.
He’s rated as a 3-star recruit in the Class of 2019 on the 247Sports composite database, which has him as the No. 36 player in the state of Ohio and the No. 53 defensive end.
Newburg has some timing, as he announced his commitment an hour and a half before Michigan tips off in the 2018 National Championship Game against Villanova.
