Michigan has been the victim of a few questionable targeting calls this season, but came out on the other side of one on Friday night.
Florida State’s Trey Marshall was ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter of the Orange Bowl after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Wolverines cornerback / punt returner Jourdan Lewis. Lewis had crouched down to field a punt and was about to begin his return when Marshall made the hit.
The penalty also gave the Wolverines 15 extra yards, which they used to score on the short field to make it a one-possession game.
