Michigan graduate and Detroit Free Press sports columnist Drew Sharp died Friday at 56.
The cause of death was not immediately determined, the Free Press reported.
Sharp had been a columnist with the newspaper since 1999 and grew up in Detroit. At the Free Press, he covered a multitude of sports, including Michigan State and the Detroit Pistons.
Journalists and sports figures, including Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, expressed their condolences on social media.
Our thoughts & prayers are with the Sharp family on the untimely passing of Drew. A UM grad & icon in the Michigan journalistic community.

Drew was one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever met in this business. He fed his image in print but personally was so generous.
