He won the Heisman Trophy at Michigan in 1991. Now an ESPN expert, Desmond Howard isn’t afraid to make predictions.
While on The Paul Finebaum Show, Howard and Finebaum exchanged a few laughs while talking about Howard’s status as an Ohioan (“Go Cavs” Howard said) going to Michigan…and about Finebaum wanting to get Howard’s honest thoughts about Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.
As Finebaum says, he’s heard all about the noise surrounding Harbaugh and all the attention he gets. So Howard backed up Harbaugh with his quick success at different stops.
“Harbaugh is a guy who, his track record speaks for itself. He’s one of the few coaches in college football that experienced a great amount of success in the NFL, too, which a bunch of coaches just can’t boast that,” Howard said.
After a little push from Finebaum, Howard made a prediction about his former team:
“They should win the Big Ten,” Howard said about Michigan.

Finebaum clearly disagrees, but Howard actually brings up Ohio State (gasp!) to make a point about preconceived notions. In 2014, Alabama was the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff but lost to Ohio State before the Buckeyes won the national championship.
Howard seems to take his prediction seriously and doesn’t see it as him simply picking his former team. He said he picked Michigan State to win the Big Ten a year ago, even though Ohio State started the clear No. 1 as the defending national champion.
