CBS writer Dennis Dodd calls Michigan basketball ‘Gumbys’ for team’s versatility
Being called Gumby may not always be a compliment, but for Michigan basketball, it is one of the highest degree.
CBS Sports write Dennis Dodd joined the Jim Rome show on Monday and called the Wolverines Gumbys for their versatility and had a lot of compliments for the squad as it prepares for the 2018 NCAA Basketball Tournament Final Four.
“The thing that’s most impressive about Michigan is they can play any way,” Dodd said. “That’s what struck me when I saw them play.
“They ran Texas A&M off the floor. You mention the 62-percent shooting. They went from their best shooting game of the season to a first-team-to-60 contest against Florida State and their coach Beilein called them pitbulls. I called them Gumbys because you can stretch them, you can hit them, you can throw them up against the wall, they’ll play any way you want. That’s why they’re one of the most dangerous teams there.”
