The latest College Football Playoff rankings were unveiled on Tuesday and, despite a loss at Iowa last week, Michigan found itself in the exact position it was seven days ago.
The Wolverines remain ranked No. 3, and the reasons behind that appear obvious. Michigan has wins over three teams ranked inside the committee’s new top 10, clearly the strongest résumé in the nation. And that’s from the mouth of the committee chair.
“What impressed the committee about Michigan is that they have three wins against College Football Playoff top 10 teams,” College Football Playoff selection committee chairman Kirby Hocutt said on ESPN after the rankings were released.
Hocutt also said that every week is important, but added that the committee reviews “the complete season resumes of every team every week.”
Michigan’s complete resume includes wins over No. 7 Wisconsin, No. 8 Penn State and No. 10 Colorado.
