Sports bettors have fallen in love with Michigan and Jim Harbaugh.
William Hill sports books give the Wolverines the third best odds to win the College Football Playoff at 13-to-2 behind Alabama and Ohio State. They’re 7-to-1 at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the second betting choice behind the Crimson Tide.
Per ESPN’s David Purdum, 10 percent of William Hill’s total national championship bets have come in on Michigan, the most of any team. That’s driven Harbaugh’s group down from its opening odds of 15-to-1. They’ve also attracted the most money at Westgate and MGM.
The Golden Nugget listed Ohio State as a 3-point favorite over Michigan in its “Game of the Year” lines, released in early July. According to Purdum, Ohio State opened as 6.5-point favorites at South Point, but the line has been bet down to -5 with 88 percent of bets coming in on Michigan.
Michigan has a light nonconference schedule, but travels to Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa. The Wolverines return a bevy of experience — the fifth best returning experience in the country, per SB Nation’s Bill Connelly — but haven’t settled on a starting quarterback.
William Hill lists Ohio State at 6-to-5 to win the Big Ten, with Michigan right behind at 3-to-2.
